Lady M……

Saturday, December 6th, I am honored and beyond excited to premiere Lady M by my dear friend and long-time collaborator Milica Paranosic. The concert entitled Sweet Concordant Strings celebrates the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth and is part of the Composers Concordance annual festival.  Lady M, a mini-concerto/drama for flute and strings, explores the tragic trajectory of the Scottish play’s heroine.

Reflection2Please join ML on Monday, September 29th, 8 PM  as she teams up  with Vancouver-based composer/mixed media wizard Bob Pritchard to create an evening of multimedia theatrical works for flute(s) and interactive electronics. Throughout the one-hour show, Lancaster will interweave works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Paul Steenhuisen, Arthur Kampela, Adrian Knight (world premiere), as well as Pritchard into a narrative that follows the desecration and restoration of the soul………plenty of costumes, sets, and libations for a fun night of soul searching!!  Gallery MC (549 Wpaul coughlin pix_0006 52nd, 8th fl – between 10th and 11th ave),  doors open at 7:30, admission $10.

Either/OR Festival 14!!

I can’t think of a more thrilling way to end the spring season than performing in the Either/OR Festival.  On Thursday, June 26th at the Whitebox Art Center, Theatrical Solos and Duos will feature Aaron Baird getting up close and personal with his bass in Druckman’s Valentine, Vasko Dukovski once again creating a glorious sonic world, Lucier, many Kagel concoctions and yours truly performing Hosokawa and dusting off the catsuit for Stockhausen’s Zungenspitzentanz!!……….On Sunday, June 29th, 3 pm at Issue Project Room, Richard Carrick, David Shively and I will perform Morton Feldman’s epic masterpiece For Philip Guston —5 hours of exquisite bliss!!!  Rarely performed, this will be a very special event — one that I’m grateful to be a part of!

The Intimate World of Toshio Hosokawa

40Perspectives Ensemble, in cooperation with the Tenri Institute, presents The Intimate World of Toshio Hosokawa. This one-hour long concert-meditation of chamber music by Hosokawa (frequently described as Japan’s greatest living composer)  features performances by Shakuhachi player Ralph Samuelson and soprano Miwako Handa!  I am thrilled to be joining this illustrious group led by the incredible Sato Mougalian for this very special event.   Thursday, 5/29/14, Tenri Institute (43 W. 13th St), 8:30 PM.  Free admission and a reception!!

Sat. 3/29, 8 pm — JBB Portrait Concert (Miller Theatre, 116th/bway).  it’ s going to be gorgeous  (i’ll be premiering his flute/theater piece Crossing the Blind Forest)

Sat. 3/29, Noon and 1 pm – Distant Mirrors — a real-time collaboration in which I play at Miller Theatre with Camilla Hoitenga in Lyon.  Duration ca. 20 minutes and it’s FREE!

3/24-29 – The Garden of Dreams – This special installation by JBB is an other-worldly amalgamation of sound and video, inspired by the dreams of visitors from around the world.  Barrier’s multimedia environment incorporates recordings of dreams, submitted by users online at thegardenofdreams.org or recorded in special “Dream Station” booths placed at the exhibition sites, both at Columbia University’s Maison Francaise in NYC and at the Musee Gadagne in Lyon, France.

PROTOTYPE FESTIVAL!!

I am thrilled to once again be a part of this landmark festival – this year joining the remarkable team of Thumbprint – a gorgeous new opera by composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist Susan Yankowitz which chronicles the journey of Mukhtar Mai (an illiterate woman gang-raped as retribution for an ‘honor crime’ her brother allegedly committed who becomes the first woman in Pakistan to bring her attackers to justice and in turn vows to build schools to educate women) —it is a powerful work about a truly singular, exceptional human being………January 10-19, Baruch Performing Arts Center.

AACM: The music of George Lewis – 11/15/13, 8 pm

AACM presents Either/Or, George Lewis and Discopoet Khari B. in a one of a kind portrait concert featuring Lewis’ chamber music (including the East Coast premiere of Hexis!) and George playing his purple trombone!!!….Community Church of Manhattan 40 East 35th Street (bet Madison and Park Avenues)

Fables and Party Pieces!!

Fables_photo_by_Edou#8351A1Fall 2013 is action packed — in addition to the premiere and fall tour of Fables on Global Warming (see below), I am joining my Either/Or pals at Miller Theater on October 17, 8 PM for The Cage 100 Party Pieces which include premieres by 125 German and US composers!!!

 
I am thrilled to join composer Corey Dargel, visual director Doug Fitch and the fabulous ArmitageGone!dance company in Fables on Global Warming — a cautionary tale of caring for the planet told through the exquisite vision of Karole Armitage.  Tour dates follow…..
